Greetings to Everyone!

Where’s My Book.org is the educational aspect of The Poole-Boyd Foundation.  The children come first. This project has been a lifelong dream for us and we now have the opportunity to act on it.

Our main goal is to provide books and educational resources to students in our neighborhood and as far as we can reach out.  This is all possible these days with the World Wide Web, Skype, GoToMeeting and all of the resources that are available to use at our fingertips.

We are asking for our fellow readers to assist us in this project and we will be sure to give credit where it is due to the donors.

Thank you so very much in advance!

My open letter

Hello Everyone!

Introvert/Techi! That’s who I am. Nice to meet you.  Thank you for supporting our goals.

This is My Story

Do you think that our children deserve to have an opportunity to learn how to read effectively? If so, please help “Where’s My Book” in providing books and learning resources to children that allows them to read, reread, and pass them on or trade them with other readers.

Do you recall a teacher that inspired you to love reading? As a sixth grade student at Sarah Nance Elementary School in Columbia, South Carolina, my journey into reading over a thousand books began during our Friday afternoon reading hour. My teacher, Mrs. Emma Sessions would read stories that she would describe so vividly, you would think that you were actually a character in the story. Thus my long journey into loving to read began.

Perhaps, your love of reading started with your teacher, parents, grandparents or siblings. Maybe they read to you during the day or even at bedtime as you drifted off to sleep. Whatever inspired you to love reading, you could not have been given a better gift. Learning to read effectively can change a child’s life. It is so very important to learn how to  read at the earliest age possible.

As a child we did not have access to a library in my community. Fortunately, during the 70’s, the housing authority apartments that I grew up in (Jaggers Terrace), in Columbia, South Carolina opened a social room for its residents. We were able to play games, socialize, as well as borrow books that were limited in subjects, however you read what was available and returned them for others to borrow and read.

These days, children that are attending school have the privilege to borrow books from their school libraries. However, having books of your own can only encourage you to want to read more and more. Although, I’ve read so many books and everything else readable, you can never know everything. As the saying goes “you learn something new everyday.”

Although, our dream can never compare to Dr. King’s, I’m sure that he would appreciate how far we’ve come as a nation.  We have so many opportunities waiting for us just to reach out and take them.

This is our dream that we’ve had for many, many years but we need your help. Starting with donations as small as $10.00 will provide book(s) or learning resources per child.

For nearly 35 years, I have been fortunate enough to work in the Kershaw County School District as a classroom teaching assistant and a personal assistant to children with disabilities.  I continued working as a substitute teacher  while completing an Associates Degree in Business from Midlands Technical College. After working numerous jobs as a wife, mother, landscaper, book store owner and many other occupations, I realize that education is my passion.

At this time I work as a Substitute Teacher, while continuing to work on my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Western Governors University.

Working with some of the best educators in South Carolina gives me the motivation to fulfill a life-long dream of helping children to learn and grow each and every day.

This Website is created and designed by Anthony L. Boyd. He is also a reader as well as a Computer Specialist with a Bachelors Degree in IT/Web Design and a Associate of Science Degree from Midlands Technical College.

Please join us as we attempt to pass on a love of reading  to as many children as possible.  You will be given recognition for your help on our donors page and your donations are tax deductible.

The Benefits of Having Books in our Homes

Many years ago, salesmen would go door to door selling many different household items.  Even though families could not afford things like vacuum cleaners and bedspreads, the salesmen would give you the option of paying on a monthly basis.

One particular item of interest were encyclopedias that were purchased by our mother (Katie Lee Poole). These large sets of hardcover books were filled with so much information from page to page. Although she could not afford them, we were excited to have these books and  would often use them for  book reports that were assigned to us in school.
Having these books available to us, made it convenient to just look through them and learn so much more than you imagined.  Think of the many hours that students with constant access to books can spend learning the who’s, what’s, when’s, where’s and how’s of so many different topics and areas of study.

So thankful for this Great opportunity

During the 35 years of working in the Kershaw County School District, I have the privilege to know and work with some of the best teachers, administrators, and office workers in the business of education.

And last but definitely not least the people that are responsible for getting the students to school and keeping the schools up and running.  This means the bus drivers, custodians, cafeteria workers,  maintenance workers, substitute teachers, volunteers.

Each of them are a valuable asset to the schools they serve. The students, parents and guardians know and love all of them.
